Ruth Roman, born in Lynn Massachusetts to Lithuanian-Jewish Mary Pauline Gold and Abraham Roman, was the third daughter of their family. Her father, a carnival barker, was killed when she was a small little girl. This forced her mother to help support the family by working as a waitress and cleaning woman. Ruth was raised in the poor Boston tenement neighborhood, Massachusetts. She went to school there. Following only two school years she left for an acting profession. Her journey was not without obstacles. the path she chose to pursue. In New York she was hired to do a photo shoot for a publication about crime, but no theatrical job opportunities came up. In New York, she was employed in a bar as the check-in lady before resigning before moving to Boston. She was in Boston in which she was employed during the late night, she was an actor for New England Repertory Company and during the day, was an usherette. She has also graduated from Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she was a drama student.
